There’s always silver in them mountains, always. (2024)
£750.00
Edition variable of 5.
Size: 61cm x 61cm
Hand-painted, screen-printed giclée print with silver leaf.
The mountain image here is taken from an early 20thcentury glass negative found by the artist (photographer unknown). The giclée print on Hahnemühle paper has been screen-printed with a blue tint, keeping all the imperfections from the original glass negative, and embellished with silver leaf and hand-painted letters and numbers.
At the heart of Jones’ work is the medium of language itself, which – here – has been re-distributed, shuffled and handed back to us. A positive and inclusive message, he has painted the words I YOU WE US across and within the bottom third of the work. It cannot be misread as either a title or subtitle, but as part of the assemblage of image, process and text. Whether this is a personal, shared or universal statement is left to the viewer to decide.
Suspended in an almost central hierarchical position at the top of the work is a solitary ‘f’ against a backdrop of star-like flecks and the imperfections from the original glass negative. Other letters and numbers float randomly across the mid-ground, also like stars.
